Did He Really Do That Enormous Little Thing?

For at least a year and a half, maybe two, I’ve been diligently, fervently, repeatedly asking God to send the Holy Spirit in such a way that we would certainly know He had visited us. I have prayed to hear from Him as the Apostles did; daily, in big and small things. I’ve prayed the building would shake when we prayed as it did for them. I’ve begged him to fill the room with His presence so we couldn’t even “stand to minister” as the scriptures say. I’ve been praying for something BIG.

But He reminded me today that sometimes the Holy Spirit shows Himself the most faithful in the little things, those small things that go unnoticed but impact lives for eternity. Here’s a short synopsis.

A few weeks ago our car was vandalized and my backpack was stolen along with my wife’s purse, wallet, and all our financial information. We’ve since gotten that all straightened out, but they never found my Bible or the rest of our belongings.

One thing you may not know about me is my Bible is precious to me. Not just the Words of Life, but the actual physical book itself. It’s like a tangible lifeline and something I cherish. In fact, when I do get a new one, I transfer all my old markings and highlights from my old one so I don’t miss anything. I. LOVE. MY. BIBLE.

So, since mine was stolen, I had to buy another … “had to” is a strong word as I have several in my office, but none were my “favorite”. (It’s here that you may assert I’m a Bible Nerd or even a Bible Snob. You may be right on both)

When my new Bible arrived something terrible happened! I didn’t like it. It was too bulky, too heavy, the print wasn’t to my liking, etc. I still loved the words in it, but the physical part didn’t suit me. (first world problems, I know) So, I set out to find another one that suited my ever-spoiled fancy. And I did. It came in the other day.

While cleaning my office yesterday, I came across the “old one”, the one I bought and didn’t like. Out loud in my office, I said, “I need to find someone who needs a Bible and give this to them.” That’s it. Then I put it on the shelf and went about my day.

This morning when I woke up I received an email from someone in another state I did not know. Her email was short. It simply said, “Do you have a Bible I could have, I can’t afford one.”

I can’t make this up, really. This is the honest truth. It literally happened just like this.

So, I emailed her back to get information on where to send the Bible and asked how she knew me or got my email address in the first place. It turns out she stumbled on our YouTube Channel and thought maybe she’d ask for a Bible!

After all this time of asking God to do something great, huge, and fancy, He reminded me that oftentimes He moves the most profoundly when we simply obey when He speaks, walk when He says walk, stay when He says stay.

Yes, He really just did this HUMUNGOUS little thing. His Word will not return void and it will ship out tomorrow! Praise His beautiful name!
