He Alone is Worthy

Today's Reading:
Revelation 4
Key Verse:
Our Lord and God, you are worthy to receive glory and honor and power.
(Revelation 4:11)
Devotional
Revelation 4 is arguably one of my favorite passages. Not because of its eschatology (end times), not because of novelty or 'weirdness', but because it gives us a glimpse into the realm where it all started. It shows us what God looks like in His original and eternal habitat. It shows us ... reality.
At the center of this reality stands a throne. Not a vacant throne, but an occupied one. Surrounding the throne are other thrones, creatures, and a scene we've seen before; God surrounded by heavenly beings, human image-bearers, and nonstop worship.
His rule: unchallenged.
His holiness: undeniable.
This isn't a chaotic scene, it's ordered and oriented around the Glory of the Most High. The vision given to John defines for us what is truly the center of all reality, of all importance. It's not only what we can see and observe from a human and temporal place. Reality is determined, governed, and defined by the presence of Yahweh Himself, by His throne.
Witnessing such a majestic scene transports us from the place of fable and myth into glorious reality; the Kingdom of God is real, indescribable, and He wants to share it with us.
In His presence fear loses its grip as our understanding grows and perspective widens to see Him and His creation for what it truly is. Our worship, joining in with the hosts of heaven and the saints gone before, restores our clarity when life is unstable and our emotions rule the day.
The understanding from Revelation 4 of the raw majesty and glory of God ... and that we are a part of His story ... causes us to live anchored to Him ... anchored to His throne. May our worship shape our obedience, confidence, and hope. Don't rush your reading of this glorious passage .. in fact, slow down and read it over and over. Let His beauty and greatness settle into your soul for from it we live and breathe.

Reflection
This world is full of darkness, worry, and pain. It can often bring about abject fear and trembling, but the glory and power of the God we serve will drive out all fear, anxiety, and doubt.
What fears do you find shrinking away when you remember the power and majesty of the One who sits on the throne?
What fears do you find shrinking away when you remember the power and majesty of the One who sits on the throne?
Prayer
Oh Father, you are good, righteous, holy, and there is no one under heaven or in heaven who is anything like you. Your throne is established forever. Help me to fix my gaze, focus my heart, on Your throne, your power, and your majesty. Teach me to live every day joining in praise and worship of the hosts of heaven. Amen.
