A Kingdom of Priests

Today's Reading:
Revelation 1:4-7
Key Verse:
and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father — to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:6)
Devotional
As we learn more of God, His character, and His nature, there is one response it should routinely drive us towards; worship and praise.
This week's story has come full circle from the book of beginnings to the book of the end. This purpose God gave us in Genesis, that David echoed in the Psalms, was embodied by Jesus, is now fulfilled in this letter from the Apostle John in the Book of Revelation. Our God-given responsibilities (and privileges) to both rule and serve have united. Dominion and worship have become inseparable.
As some mistakenly insist, we mustn't wait to become what God intended us to be; what He has already declared that we are. This is the "Already" of the "Already, Not Yet" nature of the Kingdom. Through Jesus we have been declared as recipients of a restored purpose, vocation, and standing with God. True, it isn't yet in its fullest and most complete state (the Not Yet) but TODAY we can walk and live in the freedom of this truth; the Kingdom of Heaven has come near!
The job of a priest is to serve as a bridge between heaven and earth. This has always been humanity's role in the cosmos and John reminds us this has not changed. May we submit in humility to His will for us, to His praise and glory, forever!
How can you carry your Divine purpose of bringing heaven to earth forward this week, today even, as you go about your day?

Reflection
Many Christians today live as though we are simply waiting for a Divine rescue from the darkness of the world; indwelt with the Spirit only to give us strength to "survive and exist" until he pulls us out of the muck and the mire, but this is woefully incomplete. He has SENT already rescued us and sent us INTO the darkness of this world to bring Heaven to it, not wait for Heaven to take us away.
Are you living today like someone waiting or someone sent?

Prayer
Father, may my heart be centered today on you and you alone. You are good, holy, righteous, and more loving than I can ever imagine. As David said, "who are we that you would consider us?". Give me strength and presence of mind to reflect your glory and bear your image well in every area of my life. Amen
