The Joy of Being Known

Today's Reading:
Psalm 32
Key Verse:
How joyful is the one whose transgression is forgiven. (Psalm 32:1)
Devotional
This week started with fracture and shame, but it ends with restoration and joy. Psalm 32 paints a wonderful picture of restored relationship. I love how it says when David hid his strength was drained away. But when he confessed, freedom and vitality returned. Being known, seen, and forgiven is the balm our souls need as we are rescued from dark to light; from death to life.
Forgiveness isn't simply the removal of guilt, it's the restoration of communion. It once again allows us to walk with Him in the cool of the day. Out of this honesty and vulnerability, flows the true worship of gratefulness. Restored trust naturally brings joy. God isn't looking for silent obedience and begrudging submission, He's inviting us into joyful fellowship and belonging.
In order to be fully forgiven, one must be fully known. That is the rhythm of grace. Exposure leads to healing and confession leads to joy. The relationship which is restored then leads us to heartfelt and genuine worship.
Our culture takes great links to provide depths and layers of anonymity and opportunity for hiding. Jesus invites us to be welcomed, to belong, to find peace and joy in being known.

Reflection
In spite of our knowing that He sees everything and knows everything, sometimes we hold things back from Him. And oddly, He allows us to do it.
What joy have you missed or learned by holding something back from God? Maybe an unconfessed sin or an un-surrendered area of your life.
Once you relinquish those things, how does the restored trust and relationship reshape your worship?

Prayer
Father, thank you for forgiveness and the joy it brings. Thank you for the freedom of being known. Help me to live honestly before you and my brothers and sisters in Christ. Give me the wisdom and presence of mind to respond to your goodness with gratitude and praise. Amen.
