The Lord is a Great God

Today's Reading:
Psalm 95
Key Verse:
Come, let’s worship and bow down; let’s kneel before the LORD our Maker. (Psalm 95:6)
Devotional
At the very moment of judgement and fracture, Jesus delivers the promise of redemption. There's only one proper response to a God who keeps His promises: worship.
There's a reason in almost all of my teachings I incorporate a call to action to stare God in the face, to learn of His nature and character ... to KNOW who He is. Psalm 95 calls us to a brisk remembrance of His majesty and grandeur.
It never ceases to amaze me to think of the One who formed and holds the depths of the earth and the heights of the mountains, even the expanses of the cosmos is the very same One who shepherds His people; who shepherds me. In Eden He delivered the promise of victory through Christ, now, His glory and majesty secure our hope that He is able to fulfill it.
In stark contrast, though, Psalm 95 carries a stern warning: Do not harden your hearts. It is woefully insufficient to only believe and still claim to live in The Way. Part of doing that is to enter into worship of the One to whom we owe everything and then some. Pure and grateful worship centers and aligns our hearts with the reality of who He is, reminding us that God is worthy of all trust, all faith, all obedience, and all reverence and glory.
As the scriptures say over and over ... there is no one quite like Him.
As we wrap up this week, I hope your thoughts find you kneeling before Him, not from fear, but in great confidence in who He really is.
Evil will not have the final word. In this truth He beckons us "Come, and rest."

Reflection
Worship is more than singing and reminding ourselves all He's given us. It's also reminding Him (as if He's forgotten!) how majestic and awesome He truly is. Whether or not we are willing, or sometimes able, to engage in a pattern of worship throughout our lives is a true indicator of what we believe about God.
What does your attitude toward God reveal you believe about His promises?
How can worship become a daily reminder that He is faithful and victorious? Be specific, then put it into practice!

Prayer
Lord, I'm so thankful you are my Good Shepherd, Maker of heaven and earth. Protect my heart from growing hard and bitter. Lead me into joyful obedience. Help me to worship you with my whole being. Amen.
